FlatPress was actually born because *my* blog was powered by SimplePHPBlog.
I hacked a lot my installation, so updating became a pain.
I tried to hack SPB into a new engine, but finally I decided to start from scratch, and only supporting its storing system, because I didn't feel like having to convert (and I didn't want to think about a new one, because at the time I though it would have been ok).
I first started working with Hydra (aka SamyWeb), she would have taken care of the GUI part, and I would have worked to the backend. In the end, I took over the development, maybe because I'm not very good at doing team work; I can't really say.
This happened two years ago; in the meantime, SPB got more flexible, but FP was already born.
Hydra worked at many theme ports, and drudo worked at the very first official one (which is still liked a lot, from what I can see :)).
I own now two domains and I can afford MySQL; when I started I chose not to use MySQL because I was choosing free hostings, and they used to survive for a very few weeks :D text files gave me the ability to quickly move from a server to another without having to deal with complicated export/import procedures; just ftp download and re-upload.
I used to fear data integrity, and being able to see all those .txt files made me feel safer (while in real life it's quite the same: an hard disk failure can bring down both).
When a database failure two days ago broke for a while the SPBItalia forum I tasted again that fear; by the way all was recovered successfully :D
Well. I chose FlatPress because it's mine, because I know how it's done, who does it, how it works, and what it can do.
3) perche' ripristinare un database andato a pu...ne non e' sempre facile! con i flat file basta copiare in remoto il back up 4) perche' e' "italiano"
You're gonna love the new 'Style' facility in Leggero (coming in 0.703+1), you'll be able to have multiple style sheets, keeping the base theme intact.
Thanks, tojo76 for your kind words :) (grassie dei complimenti :P)
Well,I just like flatfiles.Simple and easy.Badly,at the time I wanted to do somehting with FlatFiles there were not even one single fully functional script, then after a 3 years,SPB and FP came to be! :)
I used to use thingamablog but that didn't do what I wanted it to. I needed a flatfile engine because my free hosting dosn't have MYSQL. I also wanted something that is flexible and something that makes it easy to code themes. FlatPress fits all the criteria and I love it.
I run my own web server, an old Celery 433 with 128Mb ram running damnsmalllinux and I can't get mysql to run on it, so Flatpress is ideal. Being easy to customise just makes it better.
I chose FP because the layout was great, and I needed somewhere to place my written works that looked professional. I'm hoping I can learn more about it, making it easier for me to use and to place my works up. Currently I'm only having trouble with trying to keep preformatted text formatted, ane turning blank links into working ones, so I'm already halfway there!
Once I figured out how to customize a theme and what all the parts do, it became very easy to work with. Its so simple to setup and I just love it so far.
I added it to my website after seeing it recommended by my host (110mb). It was easy for me to install being not all that clued in with html, php and stuff and it didn't look so complicated that I wouldn't be able to try making changes to it myself :-) It'll probably take me a while to get the gist of how it all works with modding things, etc. but I think it'll be fun (crossing my fingers as I say this and hoping I don't screw it up completely hahahaha)
I have always wanted to try out Wordpress, however, I did but it takes a lot of space on my server. Plus, I can not ever seem to understand the customization of themes in Wordpress. Flatpress is just a great alternative. Customization of themes is really easy to understand. I do believe this is a secure script unlike Cutenews which is quite annoying if still using it. As of now I am using the downloaded theme, Simpla with modifications. There are currently no blog entries as of now but hopefully will go happy blogging soon! :P
Big thanks for releasing this script. If you have not, I would have to stick with either Wordpress or Cutenews and suffer!
I used to use Wordpress, but it was a hassle to back up my database and it took up a lot of space on the server. I have a really small site, so I figured why use a database and a big CMS when flatfiles would be easier and make no difference to the site. Flatpress was very quick and easy to install and it didn't take me long to customise it. If I ever move servers it'll be easier to move Flatpress than it would be to move Wordpress.
Same here, Flatpress is well-designed, looks nice, is pretty simple to modify both color themes and also the layout structure itself, and doesn't rely on SQL so backing it up is as easy as just downloading the whole folder to your PC. Terrific!
