What’s going on

Well, you know. It’s September; I should have an exam on Tuesday.

I say I should because my professor said to come and see; if there’ll be too many people I’ll have to come another day. D’oh.

By the way, don’t worry, I’m working on it :)

I have little bad news for translators, erm. I had to clean up how strings were arranged, so, (cough), you may find it a bit messy. Sorry about that, really, anyway the changes I did in the backend, did require it.

I’m also thinking about a way to make easier for you the translation, but I fear I should write something like a wiki system myself (even though we *do* have a wiki, but it might not be enough).

Moreover, I was talking to Hydra a few days ago and we were reasoning around the file format for language files; maybe using YAML might be a nice idea.

The format is so nice at the eyes I even thought it could be the new FP file format (instead of the plain txts with KEY|value|KEY|value format) for the future.

We’re even thinking about a new syntax for the blog entries.

If you know Markdown and Textile, well, it will be something along those lines.

All came from how to write footnotes, and bold text.

You may want to follow the discussion on SPBItalia . Italian. Yes, a bit my bad, but a bit yours, I don’t get any feedback from the mailing list subscribers. If you want to join the discussion you are welcome to drop a line both on the forum and both via the ML :)

Meanwhile, you can join this great new initiative:

lemoncar.jpg

To be classified as a lemon under Lemon Law a vehicle must have a continuing defect that substantially impairs its use, value, or safety

For the Italian people who are still wondering if I’m really so odd that I want a yellow car looking like a juicy citrus, lemon car is the English for catorcio (/cah-tor-tcho/) :D

You know, life is hard when you’re on foot. Even though “I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to…” *cough* :D

So, if you want to help the FlatPress project (and help a bit me :D) make a donation with PayPal :P

Money will help us paying domains, web spaces; but most of all we’ll know that you value our project (don’t worry, we know you do ;))

1)I dont know what is wrong with the “KEY|value|KEY|” format you mentions. If its to be changed,I believe a clean whole improved version would be much better.Using txtSQL as a tool to do the whole data processing, and it will be faster(MUCH FASTER to be more accurate). Also instead of txt file, php would be better with <? die() ?> (did i write it right?) on the top of them(I have seen this work wonders, because no one can access the file unless he has FTP access, while no in FP,if you know the date format, you can access them and posibly find and easier exploit.Last, there should be an alternative for the current post interface, maybe a full HTML editor, like TinyMCE or HTML Area(it sucks). And the forums are in italian and i dont know a single italian word…:P
(btw, why dont you make a simple plugin for emoticons?)

You’re right about the forum, but I’m still wondering about punBB or non-punbb (it’s still not utf-8 and I fear mysql conversion, people told me it might be a mess), so I don’t know wether still wait for 1.3 or just use Vanilla.

    1) the current format is not very human-readable, while YAML would be. I don’t know about txtSQL but I guess it’s not human-readable too (and probably even worse than SPB txts).

The point is speed vs. readability (AND then portability: you would be able to guess how to change and update by hand just by having a look at the files, if ever FP would die) and I’d prefer readability - while having a fair speed, of course.

    2) DB files don’t contain any sensitive data, so what’s wrong with having them readable? btw, just add an .htaccess to lock world access.

PHP files would add a much more higher treat, if you really fear attacks, and again they wouldn’t be that readable by people.

    3) As for the editor, that’s planned, but not for now; as I *already* said a tons of times, you can already embed a WYSIWYG editor if you completely disable bbcode, but that’s not the aim of FP

4)I might release a quick and dirty emoticon plugin on the wiki; btw it’s a matter of some str_replace()s you may want to do it yourself.

Do you have any other requests? Would you like me to buy you a beer or something? :D

I’d say Vanilla,OR NavBoard.NavBoard has been updated for like 2 years or so and its flatfile.
